What thrift stores do you shop at?
The thrift stores I frequent most are Goodwill Mesquite (4621 Gus Thomasson Road, Mesquite, TX 75150), Goodwill Garland (451 W. IH 30, Suite 100, Garland, TX 75043), and Casa View Thrift (2303 Gus Thomasson Road, Dallas, TX 75228). I definitely plan to expand my horizons and explore other thrift stores in the area.
What tips do you have for shoppers that are new to thrifting?
Be patient. Understand that sometimes it's hit or miss. Sometimes you may find enough to fill your basket. Other times you may not find anything you like. It can be feast or famine. Don't pay too much attention to sizes. (The tag in the skirt I'm wearing in my August 26 and October 5 posts says it's a size 11, but it fits me perfectly--and I am not a size 11.) I'm pretty aware of my measurements and my body shape, so I'm usually able to tell if and how something will fit, but don't be afraid to try the clothes on. Buy what you like. I try to purchase things that will go with clothes that I already have, but sometimes I find things that I really like that don't go with anything in my closet. Find a good tailor. I've purchased items that I've ended up having altered. Look for clothing from mass retailers. Sometimes stores donate very slightly damaged clothing or overstock to local thrift stores.

I graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Advertising and a minor in Marketing.
